ST. CHARLES, MO — The Lindenwood University baseball team secured its second consecutive Ohio Valley Conference series win with a 4-1 victory over Western Illinois, Saturday afternoon at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.
The Lions also defeated the Leathernecks 5-2 on Friday and will go for the series sweep on Sunday.
Junior pitcher Seth Benes was the star of the day for Lindenwood. The 6-foot-2 righthander from O’Fallon, who starred at Liberty High School in Wentzville, pitched eight brilliant innings and allowed just one run on four hits, with two walks and eight strikeouts.
It was Benes’ longest outing of the season and earned him his third win of the season.
Fellow junior Easton Rakers pitched a three-up, three-down ninth to pick up his third save of the season.

Offensively, the Lions posted 10 hits, with Jake Radosevich, Filip Sarota, and Sam Driscoll all registering two hits apiece.
Lindenwood (16-18) scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, with Charlie Isom-McCall driving in the first run with a single to right, followed by RBI sacrifice flys by Will Geary and William Zareh, and then another RBI hit by Tyler Ellis.
Western Illinois (8-24) scored its only run in the eighth on an infield hit, a sac bunt, a wild pitch, and an infield groundout. Benes dominated the Leathernecks the entire game and finished his day by striking out the last batter he faced.

First pitch for Lindenwood and Western Illinois’ series finale on Sunday is slated for 1 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
