ST. LOUIS, MO — The United Football League announced on Tuesday that the St. Louis Battlehawks have traded for quarterback Luis Perez, formerly of the Dallas Renegades. In exchange, St. Louis will send offensive tackle Corey Stewart to Dallas.
Perez, known as the ‘Spring King’ due to his extended and at times, spectacular career playing spring football, led the UFL in passing yards in each of the past two seasons and helped guide the Arlington Renegades to a league championship following a midseason trade in 2023.
In 2025, Perez completed 224 of 313 passes over 10 games for a league-high 71.6 completion percentage (minimum 50 attempts) and 2,294 yards, as well as nine TDs and just five interceptions. This season, Perez was Dallas’ backup quarterback, behind Austin Reed, who leads the UFL this season with 907 passing yards and 11 touchdown passes.
Perez, who played collegiately at Texas A&M-Commerce and won the Harlon Hill Trophy (the Division II football equivalent of the Heisman Trophy) has played eight seasons of spring football, beginning his professional career with the Birmingham Iron (AAF), with additional stops in the XFL (LA Wildcats, New York Guardians; Vegas Vipers, Arlington Renegades), The Spring League (Jousters) and USFL (New Jersey Generals).
Perez has also spent time in NFL training camps with the Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers.

Stewart was selected by St. Louis in the 2026 UFL Draft and has appeared in all four games for the Battlehawks this season, mostly as a reserve offensive lineman and on special teams. He played three seasons in college with Ball State and his senior year at Purdue, playing in 44 games with 41 starts.
The Battlehawks also announced other roster moves heading into their Week 5 matchup this weekend against the undefeated Orlando Storm. St. Louis placed linebacker Abraham Beauplan on injured reserve, and signed linebacker Tuasivi Nomura to their inactive roster. Beauplan becomes the third Battlehawk to have his season ended early due to injury.
St. Louis also announced via the UFL communications department, they have released reserve linebacker Tariq Carpenter, and have brought in defensive back Trey Dean for help in the secondary. Dean spent 2025 with the D.C. Defenders and played the first two games of this UFL season with the Louisville Kings, before being released on April 13.
