NORMANDY, MO — The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team clinched itself a spot in the postseason Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament and a possible slot in the NCAA Regional Tournament by sweeping a doubleheader over Lincoln University, Saturday afternoon at the UMSL Baseball Field.
UMSL didn’t give up a single run in either game, after winning Game 1, 11-0, and taking Game 2, 1-0.
With the two wins, UMSL is now 26-19 on the season and 20-7 in GLVC play. With the 20 conference wins, the Tritons are guaranteed a spot in the GLVC Tournament, which will be played at Mt. Dew Park in Marion, IL, May 5-9.
UMSL also moved into sole possession of second place in the GLVC standings and sits one game behind Missouri S&T for first place.

UMSL took advantage of three hits, three hits, and a Lincoln error to send 10 batters to the plate and score six runs in the bottom of the first inning. L.J. Randle, Justin Terhaar, and Owen Faith all walked to load the bases with two outs.
A fielding error by Lincoln’s Blythe Blakey allowed the first two runs to score. Then Luke Saxton drilled a double down the line to drive in the third run.
But the Tritons were only half way done, as Brandon Johnson, who came up after UMSL had loaded the bases again, delivered the big blow when he singled to left center and scored all three runners to put the Tritons up 6-0.
UMSL scored another run in the second and two more in the third to lead 9-0 before Lincoln had even had a runner reach second base. In fact, the Blue Tigers never had a runner reach second base in Game 1, as starter Eli Cartwright and reliever Trey Schneider combined for a two-hit shutout.
Cartwright (7-3) got the win by going five innings, with only one hit and no runs allowed. The lefty grad student from Oklahoma City, also gave up no walks and struck out nine.
Schneider pitched two scoreless innings, and allowed just one hit, with no walks and two strikeouts.
At the plate, Terhaar was on base four times, with two hits and two walks. He also had two RBIs and scored a run. Sophomore catcher Noah Tomaras had three hits and scored three runs.

Game 2 was pitcher’s duel between UMSL’s Bryce Nicolay and Lincoln’s Jonah Claborn, which Nicolay won due to the Tritons scoring the only run of the game on a one-out double by Cade Grevengoed and an RBI single by Johnson in the bottom of the fifth.
UMSL had just four hits in the game, but Johnson had two of them, including the one that proved to be the game-winner. Over the course of the two games, Johnson had three hits and five RBIs.
Nicolay (5-5) went five scoreless innings, with six hits allowed, but no walks, and two strikeouts.
Reliever Dustin Hagens pitched two scoreless innings, with two strikeouts to get his sixth save of the season.
