One day after celebrating its Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship, the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team found out it was named the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament Midwest Regionals.
The four-team, double-elimination tournament will be held at the UIS Baseball Field in Springfield, Ill., this coming week, May 14-17. The winner of the regional championship will advance to the Super Regionals next week (May 21-23), with the winner of that round advancing to the NCAA Division II Championship Finals at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., May 29-June 6.
As the No. 6 seed in Midwest Regional #2, UMSL (33-20) will play third-seeded Wayne State (37-14), which finished second in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season standings and advanced to the semifinals of the GLIAC Tournament, before it was eliminated on Saturday.
UMSL and Wayne State will meet on Thursday, May 14, at 1 p.m. The winner of that matchup will advance to the second round on Friday and play the winner of the 2-seed versus 7-seed matchup, which will be regional host Illinois-Springfield versus Indianapolis, who finished tied for third place in the GLVC regular season.
The losers of those two first round games will meet in an elimination game, also on Friday. The winners of the second round games will advance to the regional championships on Saturday. If a second championship game is needed, it will be played on Sunday.
All of the NCAA Baseball Regionals and Super Regionals will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
