COLUMBIA, MO — Jamal Roberts followed up what was statistically, the best game of his life with an even better game on Saturday, when he carried the ball 34 times for 222 yards and two touchdowns to lead the University of Missouri football team to a dominant 27-6 win over Texas A&M.
Roberts, who had a then-career best 208 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s win over Florida, ran rampant over A&M on Saturday for his second straight 200-yard plus performance. For the season, the native St. Louisan now has 828 rushing yards, which leads the Southeastern Conference and ranks second overall in the entire nation.
“Jamal just keeps delivering for us,” Mizzou head coach Eli Drinkwitz said. “Every week, we ask him to do something else and to keep giving us more and he just keeps doing it. He’s a special player and a special person. We’re lucky to have him on our team.”

Other players on offense contributed. Quarterback Austin Simmons threw for 147 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Cayden Lee caught seven passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. And kicker Blake Craig made two 50-plus yard field goals to help get the Mizzou offense started.
“It wasn’t my best game,” Simmons said. “I’ve got to give the credit to the O line. They battled their tails off throughout the entire game, especially in the run game. You look at Jamal’s little muddy runs. It was a gritty little game we had today.”
A&M quarterback Marcel Reed struggled throughout the game, completing just 19-of-39 passes for 189 yards. He was also intercepted twice — once in the Mizzou end zone, on a play that looked like it could’ve been an A&M touchdown, and the other deep in his own territory, which helped set up a Mizzou field goal.
“We thought we had a decent plan of some things we felt like we could execute well but clearly we didn’t,” Aggies coach Mike Elko said. “It was a huge missed opportunity not converting early to get the lead and playing from behind again. We’re not built right now to play from behind. Again, it’s me. It’s nobody else. It’s me.”

Roberts sealed the game with a 54-yard touchdown run with 2:49 remaining after he extended Missouri’s lead to 20-3 on a one-yard scoring run at the end of the third quarter that was awarded on video review after he was initially ruled down short of the end zone.
Once it had the lead, the Mizzou defense just smothered A&M’s offense. The Tigers held the visitors from College Station to 216 total yards and allowed just 10 first downs.
Mizzou sacked Reed three times and were credited with 11 hurries. The A&M ground game managed just 27 yards and averaged a meager 1.2 yards per attempt.
“You have to figure out what’s it going to look like from week to week,” Drinkwitz said. “You got to be able to absorb the different styles that you’re playing. We were able to do that. Next week’s going to be a totally different style, and you know we’re going to have to come back and figure some things out offensively on special teams. But you know, good.”

Mizzou, which is now 5-1 on the year and 2-1 in the SEC, will be on the road next week, when the Tigers head down south to take on No. 9 Ole Miss. Kickoff for that game is slated for 2:30 p.m., and the game will be broadcast nationally on the SEC Network.
