ST. LOUIS – Quarterback Matt Rush threw two touchdown passes and running backs eeslddsk each ran for a score, as the Washington University football team dominated its way to 35-12 win over Carroll College, Saturday afternoon at Francis Olympic Field.
Rush finished the day with 300 yards on 19-of-27 passing, as the Bears grabbed an early lead and never trailed in its annual Parent and Family Day Game. Receiver Cole Okmin also had a big day, as he finished with six catches for 112 yards and one of Rush’s touchdown tosses.
Wash. U. outgained Carroll 445 yards to 280, produced more first downs (23-19), and caused more turnovers (3-2), including a pair of interceptions by senior safety Andrew Whitaker, who returned the second one 20 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
The Bears are now 6-2 on the season and 6-1 in CCIW play.
Next week, Wash. U. will play its biggest game of the season, when it hosts undefeated and No. 1-ranked North Central (8-0) at Francis Olympic Field.
The Bears could gain a share of the CCIW championship with a win, but they would have to get it by knocking off a North Central team that has won each of its games by an average score of 56.8 to 10.1.
Kickoff for next Saturday’s contest is scheduled for 12 p.m.
