ST. CHARLES, MO — As the fall sports portion of the NCAA calendar nears the end of its regular season, two of Lindenwood University’s most prominent women’s teams are getting very close to winning their first Division I conference championships.

This past weekend, the Lindenwood women’s soccer team defeated rival SIU-Edwardsville 2-1 in a thriller match that earned the Lions their third win in a row and put them in a tie for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings.

Lindenwood (8-6-2) has one regular season match remaining — this Sunday against Western Illinois — and if the Lions win, they will earn at least a share of the OVC regular season title.

LU is tied with Eastern Illinois going into the final game of the regular season. So if the Lions win and EIU ties or loses, LU will win the championship outright.

Lindenwood finished second last year and lost in the OVC Tournament Championship Game. The Lions finished second in the regular season two seasons ago, but pulled a major upset and won the conference tournament to earn the program’s first ever league title.

LU can do the same this weekend, with a win and a little bit of help.

The Lindenwood women’s volleyball team has also enjoyed a fantastic regular season. The Lions are 19-3 and are tied with Southeast Missouri State for first place in the OVC standings.

Lindenwood and SEMO both came into a two-match battle three weeks ago in Cape Girardeau with undefeated conference records. The teams won one match each, and have both swept their four matches since, leaving them tied for the OVC lead with 9-1 conference records.

The regular season has six matches left, leaving both clubs with a strong chance to win the regular season league title.

SEMO won the title in 2024 and Lindenwood won the tournament championship that year, earning its first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The Lions look primed to get there again this season, but will certainly bolster their resume if they can win the regular season title for the first time this year.

Lindenwood will play on the road at Tennessee-Martin this weekend, then at home against Tennessee State next weekend, before closing the regular season at Western Illinois in three weeks.

The OVC Tournament will begin November 22, with the championship match set for November 24.
