COLUMBIA, MO — The No. 7-ranked Texas Longhorns scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter and held the University of Missouri football team scoreless at the same time to come away with a 34-20 win, Saturday afternoon at Faurot Field.

Missouri held the lead four different times, but Texas tied the game each time, then added two more late scores to pull out the victory.

Texas quarterback Arch Manning threw touchdown passes to Jermaine Bishop and Raleek Brown to turn a 20-13 deficit into a 27-20 lead. Then after Missouri had a tipped pass intercepted, the Longhorns ran in a final score by Brown to put the game away.

The game was an even battle for most of the day. Missouri scored first, when it drove 68 yards on seven plays on its first drive of the game, for a touchdown. Quarterback Austin Simmons hit tight end Brett Norfleet for a 2-yard score on a fourth down play to put the Tigers up 7-0.

Texas answered when Manning threw a 24-yard touchdown to Derrek Cooper to tie the score.

Missouri forced a turnover on Texas’ next possession and turned that into points when kicker Blake Craig connected on 22 yard field goal to make the score 10-7.

Texas answered again, with a field goal of its own to send the game tied 10-10 at halftime.

The second half began with the teams trading field goals again to make the score 13-13, before Mizzou receiver Naeshaun Montgomery made the play of the day for his team, when he caught a short pass, broke a tackle, and raced 72 yards for a score that put the Tigers up 20-13.

Unfortunately, that was one of the last positive plays of the day for Mizzou. Texas answered with the Manning touchdown to Bishop, which tied the score.

Then, after a pair of defensive stops, Manning gave the Longhorns their first lead with the touchdown throw to Brown.

Mizzou had two legitimate chances to tie the score, but were stopped both times. The first, on a three-and-out possession, where the Tigers were forced to punt. Then later, a Simmons pass was tipped and intercepted by Texas’ Graceson Littleton.

The Longhorns scored the final touchdown on the next possession, with just over a minute left in the game, leaving Missouri nearly no time for a comeback.

The Tigers fell to 6-3 on the season and 3-3 in Southeastern Conference play, while Texas improved to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in league play.

Mizzou will be on the road next week, when they’ll face No. 2 Georgia.
