STONY BROOK, NY — After opening the new season with a thrilling 20-17 victory over Charleston Southern last week, the Lindenwood University football team will be on the road this week.
The Lions will be in upstate New York for a matchup at LaVelle Stadium against Stony Brook University, Thursday night. The Seawolves are coming off a 41-34 loss to Delaware State last week.
SBU trailed by three touchdowns early in the third quarter, but rallied to tie just after the beginning of the fourth quarter. Delaware State scored just after the two-minute timeout to take the lead for good.
Thursday’s showdown will serve as SBU’s home opener and Lindenwood’s first road game of the year.
Lindenwood defeated SBU 30-27 when the teams met at Hunter Stadium last season.

Players to Watch: East St. Louis product Robert “Pops” Battle made his first start as Lindenwood’s QB last week and looked like a veteran leading his team throughout.
The 6-1, 215-pounder completed 14-of-21 passes for 142 yards and scored what proved to be the game-winning touchdown to lead the Lions.
Two other big stars of the night were on the defense. Edge rusher King Smith, a transfer from Eastern Illinois, has two sacks, while Kirkwood native Isaac Edwards made the play of the night, when he intercepted a pass and returned it 85 yards for a touchdown.

Stony Brook QB Quinn Boyd had a huge night for the Seawolves. The redshirt sophomore threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a score as well, as SBU put up 456 total yards.
RB CJ Hester, a transfer from Michigan, had 132 total yards (91 rushing, 41 receiving), and scored a touchdown as well.
Up Next: The Lions will be back in the state of Missouri, but on the road again next week, when they’ll travel to Springfield for a matchup against Missouri State. That contest will be Saturday, September 12, with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
