COLUMBIA, MO — After suffering its first loss of the season, last week at Mississippi State, the University of Missouri football team will hosts its 2026 Homecoming Game, Saturday afternoon at Faurot Field against No. 8 Florida.
The Gators are coming off one of the biggest wins of the early season, a 52-28 blowout of previously unbeaten and then-No. 4 ranked Ole Miss. The win vaulted Florida up 21 spots in the Top 25 national poll and have some believing the Gators might be the surprise team to beat in the SEC this year.
Missouri is still licking its wounds after blowing a fourth quarter lead last week. But Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz believes he has a group that can get back on track.
“We clearly have to go back to work from the challenges and lessons that we learned from last weekend,” Drinkwitz said, as Mizzou prepared for its second straight Top 25 showdown this season. “You know, specifically, we started slow. You know, we can’t start that slow, and then we didn’t finish the way we needed to in the fourth quarter.
“We have to be better on both sides of that to help our offense, defense really start faster and finish better. I thought our special teams played outstanding in the game, gave us an opportunity, but at the end of the day, the slow start the first and fourth quarter set us behind and weren’t able to overcome those.”

Players to Watch: Mizzou quarterback Austin Simmons has been excellent in the Tigers first four games. The lefty senior from Miami is fifth in the SEC, with 947 passing yards and second with 11 touchdown passes with no interceptions.
Receivers Cayden Lee and Donovan Olugbode are both top 10 in catches and yards. Lee has 27 catches for 412 yards and Olugbode is right behind with 20 catches for 313 yards, and the two are first and second in the conference in touchdown catches. Olugbode leads with five. Lee has four, including two last week.
Florida will be bringing one of the top offenses in the country to Columbia this weekend. The Gators are fifth in the nation in total offense, averaging 532.8 yards per game and second nationally with a 53.5 points per game average.
Florida’s top performer has been junior running back Jadan Baugh, who leads the SEC with 600 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound bowling ball from Atlanta, had 142 yards and three touchdowns last week against Ole Miss.
Defensively, Mizzou linebacker Nicholas Rodriguez leads the SEC with 39 total tackles (29 solo), while rush end Daeden Hopkins is second in the conference with six quarterback sacks, including the four he got last week against Mississippi State.
