ST. CHARLES, MO — The Lindenwood University men’s hockey team will open up its 2026-27 season this weekend with a pair of home games at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights against Arizona State.

The Lions are entering their fifth season as an NCAA Division I program and are coming off one of their best seasons ever, as LU won a school-record 15 games last year on its way to a 15-15 record and a runner-up finish in the United Collegiate Hockey Cup.

Head coach Keith Fisher is back for his second season as Lindenwood coach, and hopes the LU defense, which returns goalkeepers Liam Beerman and Klayton Knapp, as well as five defensemen who played in at least 22 games last year, will be able to carry the Lions to a season full of the success the team saw in the late part of last season.

Among Lindenwood’s top victories from last year were a home win over then-No. 5 University of Denver, a team that made the NCAA Frozen Four in 2025, and a thrilling win over No. 3 Long Island University, which earned LU a trip to the United Collegiate Hockey Cup finals.

Lindenwood and Arizona State will play twice this weekend — at 7 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday — with both games being streamed live on FloHockey.com.

The LU roster features 14 newcomers, including six additions from the transfer portal, one Canadian USports transfer, and seven freshmen from the junior hockey ranks.

The Lions will need to replace the bulk of their offensive production off last season’s squad as they return just 29 percent (83-288) of last season’s total points, including only 26 percent (27-105) of their goals. Junior defenseman Ethan Elias led all LU returners with 14 assists and 15 total points last season.

Arizona State went 14-21-1 last year and was picked to finish ninth in the 10-team National Collegiate Hockey Conference. The Sun Devils went 5-11 on the road last year and will come into Friday night’s season opener having lost five straight road games.

Lindenwood and Arizona State have played four times previously, with the Sun Devils holding a 3-0-1 edge in the series. All four previous matchups were played at ASU’s Mullett Arena in Tempe.

Following this weekend’s openers, Lindenwood will be home again next weekend for a pair of matchups against Lake Superior State on Thursday, October 8 and Friday, October 9. Both of those games will begin at 7 p.m., and will also be streamed live on FloHockey.com.
