MOREHEAD, KY — The Lindenwood University baseball team finished off a fantastic three-game sweep over Morehead State in an Ohio Valley Conference series at Prefontaine Park over the weekend.

The Lions’ bats were on fire, as they compiled 46 hits and scored 38 runs in the series.

The three victories lifted Lindenwood’s overall season record to 21-18 and stretched the Lions’ current winning streak to seven games in a row.

Lindenwood began the weekend with a 5-4 come-from-behind victory on Friday, which came mostly from the strong pitching of Josh Newell and Easton Rakers, and the clutch hitting of Kam Edwards and Filip Sarota.

On Saturday and Sunday though, the Lions powered up big time and hit nine home runs (five on Saturday, four on Sunday) on their way to two sensational wins.

In Saturday’s 15-2 win, Tyler Ellis and Sam Driscoll both had three hits. Two of Ellis’ hits were homers — his fourth and fifth dingers of the season — to go along with four RBIs and two runs scored. Driscoll also homered, had two RBIs, scored four runs, and was just a single away from hitting for the cycle.

DH Jake Radosevich also had two hits and four RBIs. One of those hits was his team-leading eighth homer this year.

Junior pitcher Seth Benes pitched a complete game to earn his second straight win and improved his personal record to 4-3 this season.

On Sunday, Lindenwood won 18-13, after banging out 20 hits and scoring runs in seven of the game’s nine innings.

Driscoll, who had been platooning in left field with fellow freshman Ethan Cantareira, might have earned the job full time with his play over the weekend. He had four more hits on Sunday — two of them home runs — for a total of eight hits on the weekend, to go along with two more RBIs and four runs scored.

Driscoll’s big weekend at the plate raised his personal batting average 89 points from .190 to .279. If he had enough at-bats to qualify, the freshman from Mt. Zion, Ill., would be fourth on the team in hitting and fifth in runs scored.

The Lions will get a few days off before beginning a five-game homestand over the next 10 days. That stretch will begin with a game against local Division II foe, UMSL, on Wednesday, April 22.

That game will be played at the Lou Brock Sports Complex, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.

Lindenwood will return to OVC action next weekend, when it will host a three-game series against Little Rock. The homestand will conclude with a non-conference game against Southern Illinois on April 28.

All games on this homestand will be streamed live on ESPN+.
