MARION, IL — With what was no doubt the biggest swing of his college baseball career and perhaps his entire life, Lindenwood University junior Jake Radosevich came through in the biggest moment ever, when he stroked a grand slam home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Lions to a 7-4 victory over Tennessee-Martin, in an Ohio Valley Conference Tournament first round game on Tuesday.
The Lions were trailing 4-3, with two outs and nobody on base, when Kam Edwards, Charlie Isom-McCall, and Will Geary all drew walks to bring Radosevich to the plate.
The 6-foot, 210-pound slugger from Troy, Ill., had gone 0-for-4 to that point, but he knew he could erase all memories of those previous outs if he could come through in this new moment.
UT-Martin pitcher Gabe Bryant was brought into the game specifically to get Radosevich out. But the junior catcher/designated hitter had other plans in mind. And after taking two pitches outside, Radosevich jumped on a fastball down the middle and launched it deep over the center field wall for his 10th homer of the season and an incredible Lindenwood win.
Josh Newell laid it all out on the field for LU, battling through 8.2 innings (10 H, 4 R, 5 K) on the mound before giving way to Aaron Jungers, who picked up his seventh win of the season after recording the final out in the top of the ninth.
Sam Driscoll led the Lindenwood offense with a pair of hits while also scoring one run and driving in another. Matt Graf and Filip Sarota also recorded RBIs in the contest while Will Geary and William Zareh registered hits.
The Lions (30-26) will now move on to the OVC Tournament second round, where they will play in-state rival Southeast Missouri State on Wednesday. First pitch at Mt. Dew Park is slated for 3 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
