ST. LOUIS, MO — The Saint Louis University baseball team scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take control of the game and earn an 8-2 victory over SIU-Edwardsville, Tuesday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center.
Senior designated hitter and clean-up man Chase Beattie had a huge day, with three hits and five RBIs, including a grand slam home run in that sixth inning that helped Saint Louis (12-12) break the game wide open.
Beattie’s homer was his team-leading eighth of the season and moved him into a three-way tie for second-most in the Atlantic 10 Conference this season. Richmond’s Dylan Winebrenner leads the league with nine.
It was Beattie’s first career grand slam. The Lake St. Louis native, who starred at Wentzville Holt High School, also leads the Billikens with 20 RBIs this season.

SIUE (11-14) actually struck first by scoring single runs in the first and fourth innings. SLU answered back with a pair of runs in the fifth on RBI hits by Ian Halverson and Beattie.
The Billikens took the lead for good in the next inning, when Riley Iffrig drew a bases-loaded walk to make the score 3-2, before Beattie’s blast broke the game open.
SLU added a run in the eighth on an RBI double by Joey Canzoni.
Freshman Loren Georger got his first win as a college pitcher by tossing three scoreless innings in relief. Georger allowed just one hit and walked none, while striking out three.

The Billikens will be back in action this weekend, when they’ll host an Atlantic 10 Conference series against George Mason. SLU and GMU will play single games on Friday (6 p.m.), Saturday (2 p.m.), and Sunday (12 p.m.).
